As we know, the emotional development in children is important to how a child might act when they’re older. Let me share with you my own personal experience with this. My brother has two children, a boy, and a girl, twins actually

His wife passed away when they were just over two years old and he didn’t remarry. My brother is an old-fashioned and orthodox guy and is highly opinionated about the roles of men and women in society.

This made him treat his two children differently because he believed he was preparing them for different roles in life.

For example, he would spank the boy mercilessly whenever he misbehaved but only reprimand his daughter softly and explain to her why what she’d done was wrong.

He believed a boy could not be reasoned with and only responded to brute force, whereas a girl required a lighter touch.

He would never praise his son if he did something right but would praise his daughter all the time. I tried to get him to see this double standard and why it was potentially unhealthy; to change his parenting style.

He ignored me and carried on  like this till his children became used to it.

By the time he saw the error of his ways, it was too late. His son had become resentful of authority and maladjusted to society.

He was always getting into trouble and he even joined a gang. His daughter, on the other hand, grew up to be a perfectly normal teenage girl with good friends and good grades at school.

So now the results  are becoming clear as the boy was not exposed to a loving atmosphere and grew up to live without it while his sister continues to thrive
